Women's Directorate

Policy & Research

The Women's Directorate provides leadership and education in gender and diversity analysis for the Government of Yukon. Directorate policy personnel provide research and analyses for other government departments to enhance the effectiveness of legislation, policies and programs.

At the Directorate we apply a careful diversity lens to our work, to ensure that we integrate the concerns of Aboriginal women, immigrant women, women with disabilities and other groups. We accomplish this by working closely with women’s organizations and accessing a diverse range of research resources.

A few examples of legislation and policy work that have benefited from a gender and diversity lens include:

  • Yukon Child Tax Benefit (Department of Finance)
  • Family Violence Prevention Act (Department of Justice)
  • Maintenance and Enforcement Act (Department of Justice)
  • Gender Equity in Public Schools Policy (Department of Education)
  • Victims of Abuse Policy (Yukon Housing Corporation)
  • Children’s Act (Health and Social Services)
  • Corrections Redevelopment (Department of Justice)

  • Gender Inclusive Analysis Policy and Program Training

Gender inclusive analysis (GIA) is a method used to assess the impacts of policies, programs, and legislation on both women and men.  GIA addresses gender differences, as well as those differences resulting from race, class, ability, age, and sexual orientation.

Gender Inclusive Analysis CourseTwice a year, the Women’s Directorate hosts a one day workshop for Yukon Government personnel. The highly interactive workshop uses Yukon-based policy and program examples to explore how GIA can strengthen policies and programs.  Participants explore GIA using relevant statistical and social policy resources. They use case studies and workshop discussions in applying a diversity lens to their work.
